Manoj Patil cast is Maratha and around 15 years ago, took part in the movement advocating the Maratha reservation. Over the years, he mobilized numerous protests and strikes for the Maratha community. Moreover, he sold his 2.5 acres of agricultural land to fulfill his family’s basic livelihood requirements. Initially, he worked for Congress, and became the youth president but later left the party and established his organization named Shivba Sanghatana and started protesting through it.
Though he was consistently engaged in strikes, and marches for the Maratha community, he didn’t come into the limelight. On August 29, He began a hunger strike in Ataravali-Sarate village, and on the fourth day of fasting, police personnel went on to forcefully admit him to the hospital, resulting in an intense confrontation between Patil’s advocates and police. Following it, the Police used Lathi charges, and teargas shells to prevent the protestors, putting Patil in a huge public spotlight. In Nov 2024, Maharashtra Assembly elections are on the line and he was expected to be in the fray among 10 to 15 candidates as per his earlier announcements. However, later, he withdrew from the Maharashtra polls owing to various discussions, which led him to come up with a final decision to work only against people, having been unfair to Marathas. Besides, he kept a neutral approach to the Maharashtra election, not showing his support for any candidate or political party. Further, he declared that another reason for his withdrawal was to look at the practical side, no scope of winning the election with the support of one caste, and losing the election would cause embarrassment to the Maratha Community.
