Early Life
Most of her childhood spent in Punnayurkulam and Calcutta. Her father served as a senior officer in Walford Transport Company which exhibited Bentley and Rolls Royce cars. Like her mother, Kamala Das was also a talented essayist. At an early age, her extraordinary uncle Nalappatt Narayana Menon was a world-renowned essayist had developed in her a bag of poetic contacts.
Family
Kamala Das at 15 years, while on a trip to B. H. S., fell in love with Madhav Das who later became her husband. They were blessed with three kids: M. D. Nalapat (also known as Chinen Das), Jayasurya Das, and the last born I. Though he was promiscuous throughout their married life, her husband predeceased in 1992 after 43 long years of marriage together with her.
Her first child married to Princess Thruvathira Thirunal Lakshmi Bayi, daughter of Princess Pooyam Thrinual Gouri Parvati Bayi and Sri Chembrol Raja Raja Varma Avargal from Travancore Royalties. He is also a professor of geopolitics at Manipal University – a UNESCO Peace Chair holder; down there he used to work as the editor of The Times of India as well.
